On Our Easel – May 12, 2016

Here are a few of the things that have been on CHF’s easel this week:

  • NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR CHAINS. In her latest column, Director Elizabeth Hulings urged artists to become the CEOs of their artistic enterprises: “You are not an employee of your gallery or the museum that exhibits your work. You are running a business, and supplying both a service and a product without which the rest of the industry would collapse.”
  • INNOVATIVE WORKSHOP PROGRAM TO LAUNCH. This week, we announced the imminent debut of our Business Accelerator Workshops for working artists. The pilot program begins on May 19th, and will offer interactive, customized business training to our 2015 grant recipients and finalists.
  • WORKING ARTIST AS INSTRUCTOR. Our latest podcast course featured Charlie Bogusz and LaVonne Ewing of Art Cantina, an online portal that links arts educators with students, and vice versa. Bogusz and Ewing discussed the role that teaching can play in an artist’s career.
