Here are some of the things that have been on CHF’s easel over the past month:
- GETTING PUBLIC COMMISSIONS. How can artists break into the often-closed world of public commissions? In our latest artist Q&A, we asked former CHF grant panelist Bart Walter (right)—a successful sculptor and creator of many public works—to weigh in on the matter.
- SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. Our podcast team has been very busy lately, turning out SIX new episodes of The Thriving Artist Podcast over the past month. We’ve featured an expert in collecting (Shannon Robinson), an art-business jack-of-all-trades (Alan Bamberger), and several of the amazing artists in our Business Accelerator Program (Carla Crawford, Elizabeth Corkery, and the husband-and-wife team of Adam Eckstrom and Lauren Was, known as Ghost of a Dream). As always, host Daniel DiGriz brings his extensive educational and business expertise to bear on these in-depth discussions, which cover everything from online art markets and appraisals, to managing projects and shifting between commercial art and fine art. Visit our podcast page to see the full menu of insightful interviews that are just a click away.
- DON’T FALL FOR THESE WRITING TRAPS. CHF’s Editorial Director Sofia Perez recently penned an article for ArtsyShark.com about the three biggest pitfalls that artists should avoid when writing about their work and themselves.
- TIME’S UP! The month-long application period for our Business Accelerator Program Fellowships ended last Sunday night, and now it’s our turn to get to work, reviewing the applications and selecting the 20 artists who will be joining the program next year. Our 2017 CHF Fellows will be announced in November. Thank you to all who applied. Although the application window is now closed, our free Learning Portal remains open for business 24/7, all year long.
