The Moving Gallery is hosting Watie White‘s solo exhibition entitled after the artist himself Watie White. According to Triple Play, this is White’s “first solo in the region in nearly four years.”
This show opens on January 19th at the Garden of the Zodiac, and brings together the works of a talented painter, printmaker, and narrative artist. There will be three bodies of work, with a mix between current and past works never before seen in Omaha.
Keep an eye out for White’s linocuts, created while working as an artist-in-residence in Amsterdam. These works are largely cityscapes and portraits with narratives embedded in them. The second body of work are White’s popular large woodcuts or “the omval,” in which he incorporates humorous narratives into landscapes. The third are his “Stolen” subjects, which incorporate friends into masterpiece paintings of their choice.
Take a time out and explore White’s exhibition and get a sense for both the narrative and humor that pervades each piece. You won’t regret it.
