Accelerator Fellow (2015-2016)
With a background in jewelry and metalsmithing, Terrence Lavin creates pieces that possess their own authority as objects of contemplation, yet draw upon the histories of industrialization, machine technology, tools, and architecture. He has also been influenced by his studies of scientific instrumentation, as well as visits to Mayan and Incan archaeological sites and artifact collections in Belize, Guatemala, Peru, and Mexico. He strives to create objects that suggest functionality, but are difficult to place in a historical or cultural frame of reference.
